Airlines prohibit the use of wireless chargers due to fire hazard

Asian airlines, fearing the aircraft, tightened the rules for transporting wireless chargers. According to Gazeta.ru, this was reported by the New York Times (NYT).

After a number of incidents, including a fire on South Korean Air Busan plane, changes have been made in the rules for transporting wireless chargers. Thus, from March 1, South Korean airlines demanded the passengers to keep the charger under the hands and did not fit them in the upper compartments.

Taiwan's Eva Air and China Airlines have gone further and completely banned wireless chargers on their planes, allowing them to move them with hand luggage. Thai Airlines and SCoot have taken similar events, Singapore Airlines. These events are aimed at reducing the risk of fire, although international aviation standards have not been developed yet.

It is noted that lithium-ion batteries used in mobile devices and mobile chargers are subject to overheating, explosion or fire, if they are damaged or otherwise defective.

According to the US Aircedern Federation (FAA), 84 incidents took place in US airlines in 2024, which arose by wireless chargers. Experts recommend obtaining original external batteries from trusted producers and strictly follow the rules of airlines to avoid possible incidents.
