Such statements are aimed at ensuring an escalating background in the region, the Republic of Armenia will not give in to such provocations, we continue to be constructive.
This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan in a conversation with journalists, referring to the threatening statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Referring to the journalist’s observation about what the Republic of Armenia will do if Azerbaijan decides to open a corridor by force, the Deputy Foreign Minister responded:
“Naturally, the Republic of Armenia, with all the tools at its disposal, diplomatic and not only, must protect its territorial integrity.”
He stated that Armenia has no intention of carrying out actions of a hostile nature towards any of its neighboring countries, and as for the so-called arms race in the region, he reminded that the Republic of Armenia has proposed to Azerbaijan to create a mechanism for mutual arms control.
“This proposal remains in force,” Kostanyan noted.
According to him, by acquiring weapons, Armenia is exercising its sovereign right and developing its defense capabilities. He also noted that they have been waiting for a long time for the Azerbaijani side to respond to the proposals submitted by Armenia.
“We hope that we will receive it in a short time so that the process can continue. Armenia continues to be constructive and involved in the negotiations,” Kostanyan told reporters.
