When I published my guide for international contacts, a great public search began for the aliens who gave rise to such a guide.
The Prime Minister’s wife Anna Hakobyan wrote about this on her Facebook page.
“Naturally, the first reaction was rejection, the second was aggression, the third was insult, the fourth was hidden shame, but in the end, our constant lifeline always comes to mind: “and who are these uneducated people who are embarrassing the republic, oh that illiterate mass, these Armenians…”
No attempt to recall one’s own actions and identify with what is written. Meanwhile, it is not dishonorable. It is not shameful. Moreover, it is the only guarantee of change, development, growth.
Therefore, I am forced to once again help myself to look at ourselves from the sidelines, instead of a useless search for some aliens.
The diplomatic community of Armenia is very unique, it has its own language, its own mannerisms, its own communication terms and style.
And if we put all this into one collective image, it will be characterized as a large complex that walks, talks, breathes and exhales. Unconfident, always confused, without a clear idea, a clear vision. And this situation has its explanation, objective reasons.
So our unique diplomatic language has a pattern. Almost everyone, regardless of rank, position and status, when talking about the host country says “these”.
For example, “we should do this with them”, “they like that…”, “we want to bring them to Armenia”, “we are working on them in this direction”, etc. This is how diplomats educated at YSU and Oxford University express themselves equally.
This is how they express themselves both in the absence of those people and in the presence of various representatives of those people. No one doubts that it is possible that someone understands our language, no one doubts that even in a foreign language when they talk about you, express themselves badly or make fun of you, or make internal jokes, it is perfectly visible, understandable and noticeable.
No one faces the fact that the only meaning of being in a given country is to establish and maintain good relations with that country and its people, which, you must admit, is quite difficult to do without elementary respect.
Meanwhile, diplomatic literacy is to master this very simple circumstance.
Well, let's imagine for a moment what a disaster is happening in contacts at other levels.
And of course, it is normal that the media does not even think that we do not live on eggshells, we are part of the world, and by supposedly speaking oppositional words to the authorities, one cannot be so blinded as to offend other countries and peoples.
There is such a practice: embassies translate the publications of the media of a given country and send them to their capitals. Well, let's remember for a moment what is translated and reaches different capitals, let's be ashamed and strive for a little seriousness, maturity and weight.
PS It would not be fair if I did not say that there is 1, at most 2 or 3 states and peoples in the world, when talking about which our diplomats do not allow themselves to say "these", - he wrote.
