The Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs has urged its citizens not to travel to Belarus and Russia.

If the situation worsens, Latvia's eastern border may be closed immediately. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia Rihards Kozlovskis.

The head of the Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs has called on the citizens of the republic to refuse to travel to Belarus and Russia. According to him, such an instruction is due to the fact that in the event of a deterioration of the political situation in the region, Latvia can quickly close the eastern border for crossing. At the same time, he noted that the ministry understands that Latvians have relatives living in neighboring countries.

"But such trips should be minimized. If there is a threat from our eastern neighbors, we can close the border not in days, but in hours," he said, according to Eadaily.

Recall that the authorities of the Baltic republics have repeatedly called on the citizens of their countries to refuse trips to Belarus and Russia. In response, since April 15, 2022, citizens of Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland have a visa-free regime to visit Belarus. Since that date, more than 330,000 citizens have arrived in the republic from Latvia alone.
