The Washington Postpublished an article by columnist David Ignatius, dedicated to former Artsakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan:
Donald Trump has promised to protect Armenian Christians. He might start with Ruben Vardanyan: “I want to tell you about the plight of a man named Ruben Vardanyan, a convicted political prisoner in Azerbaijan and facing life in prison, whose case deserves more attention,” Ignatius wrote.
He recalled that Vardanyan’s trial began a week ago in Baku. Azerbaijan has brought 46 charges against him, “ranging from terrorism to organized crime.” But the issue with him is really related to his decision to move to Karabakh in 2022 and become state minister there,” the article says.
Ignatius also recalled the blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan since December 2022, as well as the military invasion and deportation of the Armenian population in September 2023.
