The United States will provide additional aid to Ukraine in the amount of 2 billion dollars, State Secretary Anthony Blinken announced on Wednesday during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba in Kyiv, reports ABC News.
According to Blinken, foreign military financing will be used not only to buy weapons from the United States, but also by Ukraine, as it invests in the production of its own equipment and weapons. Ukraine will also use part of the funding to buy weapons from other countries, he said.
"All of this, especially when we think about the defense industrial base, is based on the incredible spirit of innovation, ingenuity and entrepreneurship that we see here in Ukraine," Blinken said.
The US secretary of state also said the United States was "rushing" to provide most of the $60 billion military aid package approved by President Joe Biden in April.
"We know that the additional $60 billion in aid comes at a critical time," he said. "Ukraine faces another brutal attack by Russia, and we are again seeing senseless attacks on civilians and civilian buildings."
