The initiators of Eurovote welcome the Government's decision

The statement of the Democratic Forces platform, which initiated the Eurovote signature collection, in connection with the approval of the legislative initiative by the RA government today to start the process of Armenia's accession to the European Union.

"The platform of democratic forces welcomes the decision made by the RA government at today's session, which approved the legislative initiative initiated by Eurovote and collected more than 50,000 signatures of citizens, which envisages that the Republic of Armenia begins the process of joining the European Union. Thus, the Government expressed its solidarity and concurrence with the historical and cultural choice made by the people of Armenia.

It is appreciated that the government did not take advantage of the deadline set by the law until February 12 and discussed and made a decision in its first session immediately after the New Year holidays. We urge the National Assembly not to delay and discuss and adopt the law as soon as possible.

Accordingly, we believe that the Republic of Armenia should not wait for the agreement of the road map of this important process with the European Union, but, based on the 12 Copenhagen principles, it should first define its own road map, which should include both the acceleration and deepening of democratic reforms. , the establishment of public regulations aimed at the protection of human rights, the fight against corruption and the elimination of shortcomings in the personnel policy, as well as the withdrawal from the CSTO and the CIS a day ago, and the development and implementation of clear steps aimed at exiting the EAEU.

We see the only way to face the threats coming from the complicated security environment around Armenia is the significant increase of our own resistance and fighting ability through the Euro-Atlantic security cooperation, as well as the acquisition of loyal allies. Therefore, we will consistently continue to support the RA government's foreign policy course aimed at the accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union.
