Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, erupted on the Big Island of Hawaii. The eruption took place in the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park, The Guardian reports. Seismic activity was recorded on the night of December 23, after which cameras captured the eruption of lava.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said smoke from the volcano could drift into residential areas and worsen symptoms in people with asthma and other respiratory diseases, as well as cardiovascular problems.
The section where the eruption began has been closed to the public since 2007, due to the instability of the crater wall, the risk of fissures on the ground and rock fall. Kilauea also erupted in 2024. in June and September. 2018 Kilauea's eruption destroyed more than 700 homes between May and August.
