Azerbaijan announced the discovery of an extremist group planning sabotage

The Azerbaijani special services have announced the discovery and suppression of the activities of the extremist group, which planned to carry out sabotage and take hostages, the Azerbaijani mass media reported. According to the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, as a result of complex operative and investigative measures, it was found that Azerbaijani citizens Fakhraddin Shakhmurov (born in 1984), Jalal Muradov (born in 1960), Kamran Babaev (born in 1998) created in agreement with other persons a criminal group whose goal was to commit serious crimes against the foundations of the country's constitutional order.

Extremists organized secret meetings throughout the country and created closed groups on social networks, prepared to carry out sabotage against state institutions. During one of those meetings, in which a citizen of a foreign country also participated, the flag of the criminal community was presented.

Fakhradin Shakhmurov was assigned to lead the development of crime plans that would be carried out for the group's goals. "Shakhmurov and his accomplices prepared a plan to seize one of the customs points of the state border and take hostages in order to make demands. The aim was to damage the country's defense capability and economic security, to take hostages of employees and other persons to advance the demands of the criminal community.

Thanks to the measures taken, the illegal activities of the organized group have been stopped," the State Security Service of Azerbaijan said in a statement. Fakhradin Shakhmurov was prosecuted under articles 28.282.2 (preparation of sabotage actions by an organized group), 28.215.3 (preparation to take a hostage), 218.1 (creating a criminal community) and 281.2 (dissemination of materials containing appeals against the state) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
