A law went into effect Monday in Sweden that allows grandparents to take paid leave to care for grandchildren for three months of the child's first year, the AP reported, 50 years after the Scandinavian country became the first. in the world, which introduced paid leave not only for mothers, but also for fathers to take care of children. According to the law, parents can give a part of their child care allowance to grandparents. According to the Social Insurance Agency (a government body that regulates the social insurance system), parents can transfer a maximum of 45 days, while a single father can transfer 90 days. In Sweden, the state benefit is paid for 480 days or about 16 months per child. Of these, compensation is calculated based on a person's full income for 390 days, while for the remaining 90 days people receive a fixed amount of 180 kroner ($17) per day.
