The UN General Assembly elected five non-permanent members of the Security Council for the next two years


The UN General Assembly elected Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama and Somalia as non-permanent members of the Security Council for a two-year term. The new members will join existing non-permanent members Algeria, Guyana, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia in 2025. January 1, replacing Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland. According to the UN Charter, the Security Council, which consists of 15 members, is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Its decisions are binding for implementation. The five permanent members of the UN Security Council are the United States, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and China. Each of them has the right of veto.
