The US President approved the supply of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine

The Pentagon believes that the supply of anti-personnel mines will help deter the Russian army’s advance into Ukrainian territory, writes The Washington Post.
US President Joseph Biden has approved the supply of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine, The Washington Post (WP) wrote on Tuesday, November 19, citing two unnamed US officials.

The use of these ammunition is limited to Ukrainian territory, one of the publication’s interlocutors indicated. Mines for the Ukrainian Armed Forces are those that self-destruct over time or lose battery power, becoming inactive, one of the WP sources noted.  According to him, this reduces the threat to civilians. The United States Department of Defense is convinced that the supply of such ammunition is one of the most effective steps to curb the advance of the Russian army, the newspaper’s interlocutors explained.

According to them, the White House is extremely alarmed by the attacks of the Russian Armed Forces on Ukrainian positions at the front in recent weeks and sees an urgent need to slow down the advance of Russian forces. The United States is stepping up military assistance to Ukraine. In recent days, several decisions by Washington on military support for Kyiv have become known. Thus, on November 17, a number of American media reported that the White House lifted the ban on Ukraine to strike deep into the Russian Federation with long-range weapons received from Washington.

According to the interlocutors of The New York Times, the talk was about ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.  In addition, the Pentagon plans to send Ukraine a new package of military aid worth $275 million (about 260 million euros), interlocutors told The Associated Press, without providing details. The next head of the White House criticizes the scale of aid to Kyiv.

In two months, Biden will be replaced in the White House by US President-elect Donald Trump. The Republican has repeatedly criticized the scale of financial and military assistance to Kyiv from Washington and promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, but did not explain how. In addition, Trump has publicly stated that Ukraine should give up part of its internationally recognized territory and thereby help end the fighting.
