"According to the information of the Zhoghovurd daily, the former commander of the RA Police Forces, former deputy chief of police Grigor Grigoryan, "Sheriff", upon learning about the accusation brought against him, stated in the Anti-Corruption Committee that he does not accept it and has nothing to say. According to the sources of the Zhoghovurd daily, it is not excluded that the cases of a number of former officials who are now accused in the March 1 case will never reach court.
It is possible that the accused will agree to the application of the statute of limitations, and the criminal prosecution against them will be terminated. Let us note that exemption from criminal liability on the basis of the expiration of the statute of limitations is not an excusable ground. The person agrees to the termination of the case, but is not found innocent.
Let us recall that on September 4, 2026, by the decision of the prosecutor, a public criminal prosecution was initiated against Grigor Grigoryan for negligent attitude towards the service, which inadvertently caused serious consequences. According to the accusation, during the events of March 1, 2008, Grigoryan ordered his subordinate servicemen to fire “Cheryomukha-7” tear gas grenades intended for use in closed areas from “KS-23” special carbines at the demonstrators. According to the law enforcement agencies, expired and subject to destruction special means were also used without the necessary regulation and warning.
As a result, three participants in the demonstration died, two people received serious and one person received moderate injuries. However, General Grigoryan does not accept these accusations.
