The US Southern Command reported that US forces in the Eastern Pacific have seized and destroyed a vessel used by an Ecuadorian drug cartel.
As the command noted in X, the operation was carried out “in coordination and cooperation with the government of Ecuador.”
“The vessel, which served as a floating fueling station and was used to smuggle drugs through international waters in the Eastern Pacific, was seized. Intelligence has confirmed that the vessel was used in the interests of the Los Choneros drug cartel,” the publication notes.
The people on board the vessel were handed over to Ecuadorian authorities. After completing the search and clearing of the vessel, the US military sank it.
