As a result of the use of disproportionate force by the Red Berets, RA citizen Karen Gevorgyan suffered a broken leg. The "Five Human Rights Defenders" initiative made a statement about this.
"Today, on May 14, during one of the peaceful protest actions initiated by the "Tavush for the Motherland" movement, during the removal of an unjustified barricade from Yerevan's Sakharov Square, as a result of the use of disproportionate force by the "red berets", RA citizen Karen Gevorgyan suffered a broken leg. Human rights defenders Arsen Babayan and Carlos Avagyan visited the victim in Mashtots police station. A crime report has been filed on behalf of our initiative.
We are sure that this shameful incident was made possible because no "red beret" was held accountable in any of the previous cases, and this open patronage was done for political reasons.
Therefore, we have the right not to trust the ability of the law enforcement officers to properly investigate the fact of bodily injury to Karen Gevorgyan. However, we demand a proper investigation, with full protection of the principle of transparency," the statement said.
