The Japanese authorities "crossed the line of decency" with their statements regarding Vladimir Putin's visit to the Kurilian Iturup island. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Kommersant reports.
The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Japanese ambassador, but he stated that he could not come to the department either on August 14 or 17.
Lavrov noted that the behavior of the ambassador "causes surprise". "Either he is not in Moscow, or he is not feeling well... Of course, this is surprising, because the ambassador is known for his inexhaustible energy. In any case, we have called the ambassador, he should come to the Foreign Ministry, and we will talk... about how the ambassador should build his work in the host country, respecting its laws."
