Georgia's prosecutor's office charged one foreigner and four Georgian citizens with fraud and attempted fraud, which is also related to the crossing of the Georgian-Armenian border, reports Georgia Online.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the investigation is carried out by the State Security Service of Georgia. One of the accused promised to help a foreign citizen in getting a residence permit in Georgia in exchange for 14.5 thousand dollars.
In addition, the defendants offered to create legal grounds for a foreigner's stay in Georgia for 5,000 dollars, to ensure the possibility for him to cross the border with Armenia and return. They managed to get 3 thousand dollars from that amount.
Charges were brought under the articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia on large-scale fraud and attempted fraud by a group of persons with prior consent.
Imprisonment of up to nine years is provided for imputed crimes.
