The illegal transfer of 16 million rubles to Armenia was suspended in Minvodi

Customs officers of the Mineralnye Vody airport prevented the illegal export of 16 million rubles to Armenia.

This was reported by the press service of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.

"Customs officers prevented the illegal export of 16 million rubles to Armenia at Mineralnye Vody airport. The 29-year-old Russian man tried to smuggle the money," the statement said.

The man was stopped during a random check in the green corridor. Inspectors found five plastic bags in his hand luggage, in which there were banknotes totaling about 16 million rubles ($220,000). The criminal explained that the money was meant to buy cars in Armenia. He selected cars for further sale through an online service and together with his brother planned to organize further delivery to Russia. He also stated that he is not aware of the restrictions on the export of cash from Russia to EAEU countries, the agency reports.

An administrative case was initiated in accordance with Article 16.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (non-compliance with prohibitions and restrictions).

The funds were seized and placed in a storage locker as physical evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation said.
