According to Ukrainian ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets, citizens of 51 countries, which, according to him, participated in the war on the side of Russia, came under the control of the armed forces of Ukraine.
"It is important to tell the world openly and honestly that Russia's participation in the war has real legal consequences," Lubinets said.
He noted that he presented the information about the involvement of citizens of different countries in the Russian army during the meeting with the leaders of diplomatic structures of Ukraine.
According to the BBC Russia Service, as of early July 2026, at least 3,589 foreign nationals have died fighting on the Russian side during Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.
