The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on the X social network that Ukraine joined the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union for the first time as a country providing support to other states.
According to him, a group of 70 Ukrainian firefighters has already left for France, where they will participate in the fight against large-scale forest fires.
Von der Leyen emphasized that, despite the ongoing war against Russia, Ukraine continues to help European countries in saving human lives.
"This is European solidarity. Every day, Ukraine proves that it has its place in our Union," the head of the European Commission stated.
