An Indian minister resigned amid widespread protests

The Minister of Education of India has resigned in the background of large-scale protests that have been going on for several days, their participants are celebrating the victory, BBC reported.

"I deeply respect the aspirations, feelings and legitimate expectations of the youth of our country. Fulfilling the dreams of the young generation of Indians is the moral imperative of our political and social life," Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote in X announcing his resignation.

He is the first minister in the 12-year rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (People's Party of India) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resign under public pressure.

The informal satirical "Cockroach People's Party", which brought thousands of young people to the streets of New Delhi, called on its supporters to end the protests that have lasted for weeks and become a serious challenge to Modi.

The representative of "Cockroaches" Saurav Das said that the state agreed to all their demands: the resignation of the Minister of Education, compensation to the relatives of those who allegedly committed suicide due to the leakage of exam materials, and the refusal to prosecute the participants of the protests.

Over the past few years, the biggest protests in India have been the leaking of the NEET state exam materials, which are required for admission to medical schools in India, and the subsequent cancellation of test results. Authorities have also disabled Telegram in the country
