Brazil called the new tariffs imposed by the US on the pretext of alleged forced labor in the country hypocrisy. "We are party to 66 active conventions of the International Labor Organization. The agency added that due to the lack of a real legal basis for the imposition of tariffs, Washington "has chosen to manipulate an issue that is critical to the protection of human rights." The agency stressed that due to the "completely arbitrary and unreasonable" nature of the US restrictions, the dispute will be referred to the World Trade Organization's dispute settlement mechanism.
Earlier, Reuters, citing an official of the US administration, reported that the US imposes 10-12.5% tariffs on 60 countries under the pretext of fighting forced labor.
