US President Donald Trump claims that 84% of Iran's weapons production capacity has been destroyed. "They have largely lost their ability to produce weapons. We are talking about 84% of their production capacity," he said in an interview with Newsmax.
The US and Israel started a war against Iran on February 28. As a result of the airstrikes, among others, Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of the country, was killed. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. Later, US-Iran negotiations on the implementation of the memorandum were held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, with the mediation of Doha and Islamabad.
As noted in a joint statement issued by Qatar and Pakistan after the first round of dialogue, the meeting, attended by representatives of Iran and the United States, was held in a positive and constructive atmosphere, and encouraging progress was made, including laying the groundwork for further technical consultations. But on the night of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached on the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai announced on July 13 that Tehran has never violated the memorandum signed with the United States, and that Washington bears full responsibility for its failure to do so.
