Spain and Norway have recognized Palestine as an independent state


Spain and Norway recognized Palestine as an independent state. the respective decisions entered into force on May 28. Earlier, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eyden handed over the recognition document to the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamed Mustafa, during a meeting in Brussels. According to Eyden, this decision can give a greater impetus to the peaceful settlement in the Middle East if other countries follow Norway's example. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also announced that Madrid recognizes the independent state of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. According to him, the decision is historic, it is not directed against anyone, including Israel. Sanchez assured that Israel is a friend of Spain, with which Madrid intends to maintain good relations.
