In Armenia, the program of transition from compulsory military service to contractual military service "Defender Citizen" will be implemented in the national security service. The decision was taken at today's session of the RA Government.
Until now, this program applied only to servicemen undergoing mandatory term service in the RA Defense System.
"A significant number of mandatory conscripts in the border guard troops of the National Security Service have expressed their desire to enter contract military service under the "Defender of the Homeland" program," the decision states.
In addition, the border guard troops will gradually take over the protection of the entire Armenian-Azerbaijani state border from the Ministry of Defense, for which additional personnel will be needed, which can also be supplemented by the use of the "Defender of the Citizen" program.
