Media: “funeral atmosphere” reigns in EU amid Trump’s victory

After the success of US Republican Donald Trump in the election, a “funeral atmosphere” reigns in the European Union. This was reported by the South China Morning Post, citing sources among European officials.
According to her information, one of the European diplomats described the atmosphere among EU ambassadors as “funeral.” It is noted that representatives of EU countries warned the European Commission not to make any promises to the Trump team without first consulting them.

In their opinion, “promising Joe Biden something that you cannot deliver risks a slap on the hand,” but in the case of Trump, such behavior could lead to “unknown consequences.” Earlier, a diplomatic source in Brussels told TASS that the leaders of the European Union will hold an emergency discussion at the summit in Budapest on November 7-8 about further actions of the EU after Trump's victory. The main topics will be the risks of a new trade war between the EU and the US and reduced support for Kyiv from Washington.

Voting in the US elections ended on the morning of November 6, Moscow time. The official results have not yet been summed up, but, according to the Fox News channel, Trump has now won 295 electoral votes with the required 270. He himself has already declared himself the 47th president of the United States. The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, called him the elected head of state. Trump is already receiving congratulations from foreign leaders, in particular, all the leaders of the Brussels EU institutions, as well as the NATO Secretary General, have already congratulated Trump on his victory.
