Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani visited the capital of Oman to discuss the opening and future use of the Strait of Hormuz with Iran, Iraq and the Persian Gulf countries, Reuters reported, citing a diplomat familiar with the negotiations.
These talks are expected to be separate from the US-Iran dialogue and demining efforts. It is expected that the countries of the Persian Gulf will insist on waiving transit fees. Reuters reports that Iran may propose environmental, security and navigation fees.
The diplomat noted the plans to hold separate talks in Riyadh on regional reconciliation between Iran and the Persian Gulf countries.
