Republicans have gained a majority in the US Senate

Republicans won control of the US Senate with victories in Montana, Ohio and West Virginia, guaranteeing Donald Trump's party control of at least one chamber of Congress for next year, Reuters reports.

Republicans won a majority in the US Senate with 52 seats to Democrats' 42 seats and 206 seats in the House of Representatives to Democrats' 182 seats, although final election results have not yet been released.

If Republicans eventually win the House, they will be able to dictate the agenda in Washington, helping Trump for at least the next two years to fulfill his promise to cut taxes and limit immigration before the 2026 midterm elections.

The results also ensured that Senate Republicans could help Trump appoint conservative judges and other government officials.
