The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a higher priority for Turkey in the US-Iran peace talks than Iran's nuclear program, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei.
According to him, Turkey, together with Pakistan and a number of other countries, is currently mediating the negotiations between the USA and Iran. The Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized that if they reach an agreement on the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz, then it is planned to proceed to the discussion of Iran's nuclear program.
According to Fidan, the situation around the Strait of Hormuz puts pressure on both the US and Iran.
"The international consequences are huge, including in the field of energy and food security. The situation has reached such a point that negotiations on this issue should take precedence over nuclear issues," he added.
