The Palestinian movement announced that Azzam, the son of the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Heja, was killed by an Israeli airstrike on the enclave. Al-Jazeera, citing sources, reported that Azzam al-Heija died of wounds sustained in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza's Ad-Daraj neighborhood on Wednesday.
"The heinous crime of killing Azzam al-Heiya, the son of Khalil al-Heiya, the head of the Gaza Movement and Negotiations Team, demonstrates Israel's continued policy of targeting civilians and family members of the Palestinian leadership," the statement said.
Hamas also noted that Israel is using such actions to put pressure on the movement after unsuccessful attempts to impose its terms in the negotiation process to end the war in Gaza.
