The European Union intends to resolve the issue of Montenegro's use of the euro as a means of payment by the end of May, which is an obstacle to its membership, according to Montenegrin Finance Minister Novica Vuković. "The European Commission has shown its willingness to solve this issue in a pragmatic way," Vuković told Bloomberg.
According to him, the EU proposal to solve the issue is expected by the end of May. The agency notes that the European Union has not previously faced such a situation when a country that has been using the euro as its currency for decades intends to join.
The publication notes that usually candidate countries are required to meet a number of political and economic criteria, and they adopt the euro as their currency only after joining the EU.
