In July 2025, another noisy reduction took place at Yerevan State University. According to the YSU rector's decision, within a few days, the Center for Work with Students, which was known for its military-patriotic programs and initiatives, and the center's director and some employees, was dissolved within a few days, with a clear and sometimes quite sharp oppositional stance. Immediately after the liquidation decision, the employees of the center announced that what happened was a political order and the decision was clearly illegal.
This was followed by the court process. 10 employees of the center challenged the rector's decision by appealing to the court. At the end of last year and at the beginning of this year, the court issued decisions partially satisfying the employees' demand and forcing the university to pay a fine for forced downtime and the impossibility of recovery. The employees of the center, however, appealed this decision, demanding full satisfaction of the claim, that is, the restoration of the labor rights of the center's employees.
It is interesting that, according to our sources, the RA Court of Appeals accepted all the lawsuits except for one. We are talking about the lawsuit filed by Vahagn Varagyan, director of the center, candidate of biological sciences, who is also known for his sharp stance on these authorities. Considering that all the lawsuits are filed on the same basis, this fact once again supports the employees' claim that the issue has political implications. Let's add that in the last 4 years YSU has paid about 80 million drams to illegally dismissed employees as a result of court decisions.
