French President Emmanuel Macron intends to discuss the restoration of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz with Iran in the near future. He announced this to journalists upon his arrival in Andorra.
"Immediately after this visit, I will resume negotiations with the Iranian authorities," he said. Macron also said that he had already spoken with the US president and emphasized the importance of resuming the movement of ships carrying oil, gas, fertilizers and other goods through the strait, as the current situation "affects the world economy". He also expressed hope that he would be able to "convince the interested parties" of the need for a coalition created by France and Great Britain to ensure the safety of shipping through the strait.
"Today we see that neither the ongoing tension nor the answers given from afar are a good sign. The fact that a ceasefire has been signed is good, and it now includes Lebanon. Now we need to make progress in negotiations to restore normal traffic (for ships in the Strait of Hormuz)," he said.
