The US Department of Defense has requested almost three times the amount for the purchase of AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles, which were previously actively supplied to Kiev, for the fiscal year 2027, RIA Novosti found out after reviewing the new budget documents.
According to published data, the US military intends to buy a total of 954 missiles: 648 units (worth $419.2 million) for the Air Force and 306 units (worth $174.7 million) for the Navy. This is nearly triple the FY 2026 level, when the combined request for the Air Force and Navy was just 319 units.
The Pentagon has actively supplied such missiles to Ukraine in the past.
