The refusal of the EU countries to provide military bases to the United States for action against Iran indicates the existing division within NATO, reports the Financial Times (FT), citing diplomatic sources.
According to the publication, "European countries' restriction of access to US military bases during the war with Iran has revealed a deepening rift within the bloc and heightened fears that Donald Trump could use this as an excuse to reduce Washington's involvement in Europe's defense."
According to a White House spokesman, "President Trump has said in the past that NATO has been tested and they have failed."
