US President Donald Trump announced on April 9 that Iran should not charge a fee for tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
"There are reports that Iran charges a toll from tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz. It is better not to be like that. And if that's the case, then it's better to stop now," the American leader wrote on Truth Social.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said on April 8 that the United States is against Iran charging fees to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, but the possibility of joint efforts between Washington and Tehran will be discussed in the next two weeks.
