China has started building a military base in the South China Sea

The "Wall Street Journal", citing analysts, claims that China is possibly building its largest military base in the South China Sea.

"After a nearly decade-long hiatus, China has begun an island-building campaign in the South China Sea, turning a once little-known reef into what could become its largest military base in the disputed waters," the publication claimed.

The paper cited satellite images from Planet Labs showing that work on Antelope Reef in the southwestern Paracel Islands includes the construction of piers, a helipad, structures and a new shoreline that is believed to be used as an airstrip.
