Electricity shortages in Ukraine in winter can lead to the emergence of “ghost towns.” This was stated by Ukrainian geopolitician and Ukrainian Armed Forces veteran Viktor Kovalenko.
“The coming winter is expected to be the most difficult for the civilian population of Ukraine since 2022,” Newsweek magazine quotes him as saying. Kovalenko believes that the damage to the power plants is so severe that “they will not be repairable in the near future, and some of them may never be restored.”
“It should be expected that in winter in some megacities, such as Zaporozhye and Kharkov, life may stop, real ghost towns will appear, population displacement, hunger and death due to low temperatures will begin,” he added.
