India is discussing the passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz with Iran

India is in talks with Iran to allow eight liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, News18 reported citing sources.

"According to the sources, eight LPG tankers are waiting right outside the Strait of Hormuz. The government is in contact with Iran to facilitate the passage of these ships," the TV channel reports.

India imports more than 60% of its LPG needs. A significant portion of these imports are shipped through the Strait of Hormuz from suppliers in the Persian Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Any disruption to this transport route could adversely affect the availability of LPG in the country.
