A state of emergency has been declared in Washington

US President Donald Trump has approved the use of a state of emergency in the country's capital due to the discharge of city sewage into the Potomac River. This was reported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This measure enables the agency to coordinate all actions of local authorities to deal with the consequences of an emergency and to provide assistance to the local population.

In mid-January, about 886,000 cubic meters of sewage spilled into the Potomac River as a result of a sewer line explosion in Maryland.

In February, the head of the US administration emphasized that "a large-scale ecological disaster is developing" in Maryland and criticized the state leadership, accusing them of incompetence.
