More than 70 tigers died in a zoo in Thailand in a few weeks

72 tigers died in the "Kingdom of Tigers" zoo in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This is reported by The Guardian. According to preliminary information, the animals died from a highly contagious virus.

The first signs of the disease were detected on February 8. According to the newspaper, doctors could not save the infected tigers. The zoo is currently closed, staff and regional authorities are disinfecting the area and trying to contain the spread of the infection.

news.ru writes that the exact cause of the animals' death has not yet been determined. Veterinarians and Agriculture Department officials are discussing two possibilities: distemper with mycoplasmosis as a secondary complication, and panleukopenia, also known as feline distemper.
