A US-led strike group forming near the Middle East is awaiting the arrival of the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier and accompanying ships in preparation for possible military action against Iran, The Washington Post reported on Friday, citing current and former US officials.
According to these sources, the Pentagon has been concentrating significant forces in the region for several weeks, despite the possible risks of US military losses and drawing the country into a protracted conflict. According to the release, military leaders last week extended the deployment of the aircraft carrier group and sent it from the Caribbean to the Middle East.
On Thursday, the ships were approaching the Strait of Gibraltar, which, according to the publication's sources, makes the operation possible in the next few days.
