In 2025, Ukraine bought about 46% of its total gas exports from Hungary. This follows from the data of "Operator of gas supply system of Ukraine" LLC, which was received by TASS. Since 2022, Ukraine has steadily increased its natural gas exports from Hungary, with volumes growing particularly rapidly in 2025 amid damage to gas fields in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions. As a result, Ukraine exports 20-30% of its total gas needs every month.
Hungary's total natural gas exports to Ukraine amounted to 2.5 billion cubic meters, five times more than in 2022. This volume is about 46% of all gas supplied to Ukraine from abroad, or about 14% of all gas consumed in 2025.
Hungary is mainly a transit country that resells gas from other sources to Ukraine. Earlier, the head of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's office, Gergely Huyas, announced that the country's government is considering the possibility of stopping the supply of gas and electricity to Ukraine after the suspension of diesel fuel supply.
As TASS reported earlier, Hungary and Slovakia, which also stopped receiving Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline because of Ukraine, are the largest exporters of electricity to Ukraine.
