Bild: Germany will extend border controls for another six months

The German authorities plan to extend border control with neighboring countries until September 15, Bild newspaper reports. According to the newspaper, the relevant notification will be sent to the European Commission soon.

"We are extending the border control with our neighboring countries. Border control is part of the reorganization of migration policy in Germany," German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told the newspaper. On May 7, 2025, the Minister of the Interior revoked the previous cabinet's 2015 decision that allowed asylum seekers to enter the country.

Now they are denied entry if they have already submitted applications in other EU countries, but this does not apply to pregnant women, children and other vulnerable groups. Dobrindt announced the strengthening of control and the increase in the number of federal police officers conducting checks at the country's borders.
