Israel insists on the complete disarmament of the radical Palestinian movement, Hamas, including the surrender of all small arms.
This was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, estimating the number of automatic weapons in the possession of Hamas at 60,000 units. Speaking at a meeting with leaders of Jewish organizations in the United States in Jerusalem, he noted that Israel remains committed to the Gaza peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
"When we move to phase B, first Hamas must be disarmed, then Gaza must be demilitarized," Netanyahu repeated, according to statements published by the Prime Minister's Office.
