The Chinese authorities will eliminate customs duties on goods from 53 African countries from May 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced.
"From May 1, 2026, China will fully implement measures to establish zero tariffs on all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations," Xi Jinping said in a congratulatory message to African Union (AU) President João Lourenço and AU Commission Chairman Mahamoud Ali Yusuf on the occasion of the Lunar Year of the Red Horse.
