Oppositionist Gwaramia, convicted for not appearing in the parliament, was released in Georgia

The leader of the Akhal opposition party, Nika Gvaramia, who was convicted for not appearing at the session of the parliamentary commission investigating the crimes during the administration of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili (2004-2012), has been released.

Footage of Gwaramiya's release was broadcast live by local television stations.
In June 2025, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced Gvaramia to eight months in prison for not appearing at the session of the parliamentary committee. He was called to the commission session in April, but he refused to appear in the parliament and testify.

In addition to Gvaramia, oppositionists Zurab Japaridze, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Melia, former Minister of Defense Irakli Okruashvili, as well as supporter of the opposition, former member of parliament Givi Targamadze, were also convicted for not appearing at the session of the parliamentary committee.

Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, leaders of the "Strong Georgia" opposition coalition, were also imprisoned for not appearing at the commission's session, but Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili pardoned them in September. Zurab Japaridze was released from prison in December last year. Vashadze and Targamadze left the penitentiary in January.
