We proceed from the fact that the commitment of the Armenian leadership to diversify foreign relations does not imply a refusal to cooperate with traditional allies or a reorientation to the standards of associations and alliances that seek to deliver a "strategic defeat" to our country. This is stated in the ministry's response to the media questions received by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for a press conference on the results of Russia's diplomatic activities in 2025.

A question was asked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. "Is Russia leaving its traditional allies, Armenia, Syria, Venezuela and Iran, at the mercy of the United States?"

"Our relations with Armenia are based on a strong legal framework, which establishes their alliance status. We have repeatedly emphasized at different levels that this is the nature of our bilateral relations. Our peoples are united by age-old friendship, common history, cultural and ideological similarities.

We effectively cooperate within the framework of general integration associations in the Eurasian territory. Membership in EAEU brings real, tangible benefits to the republic. One of the main advantages of the Union is that issues are resolved on the basis of the principle of mutual respect, which is not influenced by political considerations and takes into account the interests of the member countries. Moreover, Armenia remains a CSTO member with all its rights and obligations. We support Yerevan's full participation in the work of the organization, as it is an integral part of the country's security.

In general, bilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as inter-governmental and inter-parliamentary commissions, work smoothly. Russia is effectively confirming its role as the main and, no less important, reliable trade and investment partner, guarantor of Armenia's food and energy security. Our country accounts for about 35% of its foreign trade. Russian business is an important element of the socio-economic well-being of the country. There is potential for expanding cooperation, for example, in the fields of peaceful nuclear energy and logistics. Many joint educational and cultural initiatives are being implemented. The Russian military base and our border guards are the most important elements of the security of Armenia and the entire South Caucasus.

We believe that the commitment of the Armenian leadership to diversify foreign relations does not imply a reduction in cooperation with traditional allies or a reorientation to the standards of associations and alliances that want to deliver a "strategic defeat" to our country. We openly convey to our Armenian partners our assessments regarding rapprochement with the EU. We are sure that the countries of the South Caucasus, including Armenia, understand that cold calculations are hidden behind the supposedly good intentions of Brussels and Washington. For them, this region, with which Russia is historically and inextricably linked, is nothing more than a potential "pain point" that, if pressed, can be used to harm our country," the ministry said in a statement.
