The government of New Zealand has rejected the offer of US President Donald Trump to join the Peace Council on the reconstruction and management of the Gaza Strip. The corresponding statement made by Prime Minister Christopher Lacson was quoted by Stuff news portal.
"The New Zealand government has considered President Trump's invitation and has decided not to join the Peace Council in its current format," Lacson said. Foreign Minister Winston Peters also emphasized that New Zealand will support the organization, but will not join the Peace Council.
"A number of states, especially from our region, have already announced their intention to participate in the work of the council, and New Zealand will not make a significant contribution.
In addition, we need clarity regarding the powers of this new structure, both now and in the future," he said.
