HRD requested the necessary clarifications from the prosecutor's office regarding the arrest of 9 citizens

On October 31, 2024, information was published in the mass media and social platforms that 9 persons were arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing firearms based on operative data and were taken to the detention facility of the Yerevan Police Department.

On the instruction of the Human Rights Defender, the staff immediately started an investigation procedure. On the same day, necessary clarifications were requested from the RA General Prosecutor's Office regarding the legal justification of the arrest of the mentioned persons and a number of issues related to the initiated criminal proceedings.

Today, on November 1, the Human Rights Defender's staff received information that all 9 arrested persons have been released. The study initiated by the Human Rights Defender's staff continues.

The defender reaffirms his position that any case of depriving a person of his liberty must meet the established standards of legality and any concern related to the matter must be the subject of proper discussion.
